Interests

My research interests revolve around understanding the source of variation in growth, survival, and recruitment of young fishes and how this variation in turn influences population structure and dynamics. I am particularly interested in the factors contributing to selection of individuals during early life. Among the many selective agents, I am especially intrigued by parental influences on progeny, either via endogenous maternal resource contributions (i.e., amino acids, lipids, etc.), inheritance (i.e., genetics), or parental care. These interests serve as the impetus for my dissertation research which is designed to investigate the importance of maternal phenotype/genotype on offspring fitness and recruitment of striped bass spawned in the Chesapeake Bay. Through this research I hope to shed light on the role that maternal phenotype/genotype plays in the selection of young fishes in their natural environment.
