
CBL
assists K-12 teachers in integrating results of University-based
research in the marine sciences into their existing curricula through
graduate courses, professional development workshops and various
educational resources through the
Maryland Sea Grant Extension Program.
The Laboratory does not offer programming for K-12 classes at this time.
Workshops & Courses
Workshops and courses are offered to public and private
K-12 educators by CBL and the Maryland Sea Grant Extension Specialists.
These workshops and courses are offered for graduate credit, MSDE continuing
education credit, or as professional development opportunities.
Chesapeake 2000: Incorporating the Chesapeake Bay Agreement
into the Classroom
July 25-29, 2005
This summer, teachers will have the opportunity to take part in a
unique course that brings together University-based research and data
with the Chesapeake Bay 2000 agreement. This week-long course will give
educators field and lab-based experiences in living resources, habitat
and water quality protection and restoration, sound land use practices
and environmental stewardship.
Teachers earn two University of Maryland credits or two Maryland State Department of Education Continuing Education credits.

Science
Seminar Program
The Science Seminar Program is a series of professional
development opportunities for public and private K-12 educators in Marine
and Environmental Sciences. Seminars are one day in length, offered during
the summer months on the CBL campus, and cover a variety of Bay related
topics for classroom application. This program offers hands-on research
based activities, resources and materials to carry out activities and
experiments in the classroom, and more. All activities are correlated
to Maryland Core Learning Objectives and Goals.
Funding for these workshops are made possible through the The
Dr. Eileen Setzler-Hamilton Memorial Fund. The Chesapeake Biological
Laboratory and the family & friends of Dr. Eileen Setzler-Hamilton,
are honoring her commitment to scientific research and enthusiasm of teaching
through the support of teacher education workshops
